In partnership with the St. Paul CARE Team, Howard County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (with funding from United Way & Region 3 Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services) QPR Institute (questions, persuade, refer), area churches, and other community organizations have begun a program to educate and enrich our families and communities. The Family Enrichment Series intends to provide seminars once a quarter, during the school year, geared at bringing practical and important infor mation and training to teens and adults. We will provide simultaneous yet separate
sessions for both teens and adults. A meal, drinks and snacks will be provided. These seminars are free and open to everyone. Our first seminar is focused on teaching the signs and symptoms of depression and suicidal ideation. We will also be teaching steps and actions that will help prevent suicide attempts and provide resources that can be used with any person that may be contemplating such actions. There has been a troubling trend in Nebraska and in our own small community of suicide and self harm
ing behaviors. We felt it prudent to offer this training now as the new school year is beginning. We are all struggling in some fashion and can all use a helping hand from a friend. We want to provide our community with the tools and resources needed to alleviate future losses from suicide or self-harming behaviors.
