We have one more WHY from our board of directors. When people think about Petersburg and what makes this town great, Larry Temme likely comes to mind:
"Being born and raised on our family farm east of Petersburg, along with my four siblings, we were taught the meaning of hard work at an early age. We learned how to work together to get things done quickly. Upon graduating from high school, I chose to stay in Petersburg as college just wasn't really an option. I was lucky enough to get a job at the Petersburg Locker; Al and Helen Reicks owned the Locker at that time and from working for them for 14 years, I was inspired by them as they taught and allowed me to learn and grow in what it takes to own and operate a business.
I also started getting involved in organizations throughout the community. This included the Young Mens Club, Parish workforce, Parish Council, Petersburg Booster Club and I served as a volunteer fireman. After getting married and having kids, I realized that it takes a community to raise your kids. From there I sat on the Boone Central School Board for 12 years and am currently a Boone Co. Commissioner, a member of the Petersburg Industrial Development Corp, Boone Co. Development Agency and a charter member of this organization. Since 2007 I have owned and operated the grocery store, first as Andres and today as Rae Valley Market. Community support here is second to none and it's why we invested to build the current store. We are fortunate to have raised our family here, and all have returned to live and get involved. I consider this the best country, best county and best community in the world, and having served in all of these capacities, I have worked with more talented and dedicated people than one could imagine. People who have a passion and believe in making this the best place it can be. I'm proud and privileged to have been a small part of it."
