A Junior Golf Camp was held at Pawnee Hills for students entering 5th through 9th grades on June 13-16 with 21 campers attending from Nance County area schools. The camp was broken into 4 groups with 4 rotations. Twin River’s Head Boys Golf Coach, Scott Fehringer, was at the driving range teaching the golfers the correct grip, alignment, stance and swing. Fullerton’s Head Girls & Boys Golf Coach, Shawn Ostransky, was on hole #7 green teaching the golfers how to chip, rules and golf etiquette. 2021-22 Girls State Qualifier Melinda Pickrel was on hole #1 & 9 teaching rules and etiquette from the tee box to the green. Elgin/Elgin Pope John’s Head Boys Golf Coach and 2010-11 Boys State Golf medalist, Trent Ostransky, was on hole #8 green teaching the fundamentals of putting, reading greens, marking the ball, rules and etiquette. The campers were taught rules and etiquette in each of the four rotations.
Contests were held on the last day of camp. Winners of the putting contest were: Kip Hamik, Kyle Horn, Ryan Cook & Marshal Nelson. Winners of the chipping contest were: Riley Williams, Jacob Finley, Braylon Kurz & Kip Hamik. The winners of the longest drive in the fairway contest were: Barrett Bridger, Kip Hamik, Tucker Smith, Ryan Cook and Turner Hoffman.
