The road in and out of Bradshaw Park is new, improved and once again open to the public.

A complete reconstruction of 48th Avenue south of 23rd Street down to the entrance of Bradshaw Park began in March 2023 and has progressed ahead of schedule so much so that officials were recently able to open it back up for public use earlier than anticipated.

“It came together really well and it fits in with the area really well,” City Engineer Rick Bogus said. “We’re happy with how it turned out.”

Bogus credited the contractor, Gehring Construction & Ready Mix Co., for its work and efforts on the roadway, which called for it to be transformed from asphalt to a more urban area with a concrete street, curb and gutters, as well as a storm sewer and new lights. It came out of necessity as the road was heavily used, according to Bogus.

The roadway was getting plenty of use on Tuesday night as cars went in and out of Bradshaw Park for youth softball games. Despite this, the city engineer said things aren’t finished yet.

“It’s open to traffic, but there is still a lot of work to be done to the road itself and on the side of the road,” Bogus said, noting the good weather played a factor in the progress so far as it enabled contractors to get the work done and not be slowed down. “We just wanted to get it open as soon as we could for use.”
