Rep. Don Bacon, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska's 2nd district since 2017, recently shared his views on significant national security issues through a series of tweets. Bacon, born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently residing in Papillion, expressed concerns about nuclear proliferation and cyber defense strategies.
On May 16, 2025, Rep. Bacon stated that "The most likely path towards a nuclear war is if Iran acquires nuclear weapons. This is why we cannot allow Iran to build a nuclear weapon." He emphasized the importance of preventing Iran from developing such capabilities as a means to avoid potential nuclear conflict.
Later that day, he commented on the strategic relationship between Cyber Command and the National Security Agency (NSA). Bacon asserted that "The dual-hat relationship between Cyber Command and NSA is a construct that proves its value to our national security every minute of every day." He further noted that Department of Defense leadership might mistakenly believe they have support from congressional oversight panels on this issue.
In another tweet posted shortly after, Rep. Bacon highlighted bipartisan opposition to changing this arrangement by stating "There is renewed speculation about the separation of the ‘dual-hat’ relationship between CYBERCOM and NSA. On a bipartisan and bicameral basis, the Armed Services Committees are strongly opposed to ending the dual-hat relationship."
Don Bacon graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BA in 1984 and later from the University of Phoenix.
