Rep. Don Bacon, representing Nebraska’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, has been vocal on several international and domestic issues through his recent tweets. Bacon, who succeeded Brad Ashford, was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion.
On May 17, 2025, Bacon addressed the geopolitical tensions involving Ukraine and Russia. He stated that "Ukraine wants democracy, independence, free markets & to be aligned with the West. Russia wants to subjugate Ukraine & eliminate it as a sovereign nation." Emphasizing the significance of this conflict for national security interests, he warned that "Russia won’t stop with Ukraine."
The following day, May 18, 2025, Bacon praised the United States Air Force for its involvement in countering Iranian aggression towards Israel. He highlighted their success by saying "I’m proud of the USAF for their role in shooting down dozens of Iranian drones targeting Israel last year." According to Bacon's account, Iran had launched 330 missiles and drones which were largely intercepted by a coalition including Israel.
Later on May 18th, he shared an achievement from his congressional office regarding legislative success. He announced that "Our office ranked No. 1 in GovTrack’s 118th Congress Report Card for passing the most bills signed into law by the President!" Expressing pride in these accomplishments during the 118th Congress term.
